Day 2 : Devonport
Welcome back – thanks for sticking around – I’ll maybe do a wee souvenir / competition thing here along the way, sound good?!
Here goes…Day 2 in Auckland 🙂
Yet more ramblings from the brain of Michael afoot – lock yourself in – we’re hitting the waters 🙂
Yesterday instead of doing the sensible thing and sleeping off the jetlag thing, I decided to hit Auckland City and see what it had to offer. As with any major city, there’s a real buzz about the place – some great shops and boutiques – but I had only one thing on my mind – and yes, I super sized!! 😀
After lunch, I grabbed a Ferry from the harbour and headed over to beautiful Devenport. I’ve taken one or two videos which I’ll try to throw together into a concise video back at McG HQ. Suffice to say, beautiful, smooth, turquoise waters and a clean sea air made for a very pleasant crossing.
Devonport itself is like a place lost in time. The shops and the houses especially wouldn’t seem out of place in ’30s America or a film set – I’ll dig out some photographs soon, words won’t do it justice, like most things I’ve seen so far.
I scaled Mount Victoria – sounds impressive right? It’s Tiny! Small it is but it provides a great vantage point to see Auckland in all it’s glory.
After this I headed back to BASE and succumbed to ‘The Lag’!!
Today started abruptly with a fire alarm and a fat (oh yes!) Australian stumbling by my room saying “It’s alright, I don’t smell smoke, it’ll be a false alarm, I’m not staff but it’s a false one” Brilliant!! 😀
Today’s plan involves going to the Sky Tower. My friend Bruce assures me I can zip-line from it and I’m pretty confident that shouldn’t end in my lower body being fully detached from itself – so I’m in! 🙂 Other than that, I really fancy a night stroll around the harbour as I hear it’s a bit special around then.
I’ll also get my plans together for the coming days where I intend to grab an early bus and head north to the Bay of Islands for a few days 🙂
Thanks for joining me on this journey – please don’t be a stranger and leave some comments if you can – do you have suggestions for places to visit in NZ? Maybe I’m using too many smiley faces? Anything, just let me know – until tomorrow, have a great one!!
